About Us

The Arafura Wind Ensemble (AWE) Inc. was established in March 1993, as a result of a community survey conducted by Mr John Young, a musician, teacher & resident of Palmerston (Northern Territory, Australia).

Since its foundation, AWE has performed at many and varied venues and functions throughout the ‘Top End’, ranging from Government House, World Solar Car Challenge, ANZAC Day & Australia Day functions as well as Civic, school and community concerts.

The Arafura Wind Ensemble comprises approximately twenty-five to thirty-five musicians who come together from all walks of life to enjoy community music making.

True to its original charter, AWE provides an avenue for all musicians in the Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield communities, to play a wide range of music -  from the classics to Broadway, popular and traditional, jazz to marches.

The Arafura Wind Ensemble Inc. performs for the community, corporate events and also in collaboration with other arts groups such as the Darwin City Brass Band, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Army Band Darwin.
